Golf sport is a very popular. It is one of the most loved sports in the world, having reached peak notoriety among the wealthier classes. But how does golf work? Basically, players are supposed to use a club to push a ball into a hole. The modern game finds its origins in 15th century Scotland. However, some ancient Roman and Chinese sports show significant resemblances to golf that many historians have come to link these traditions to the modern practice of the game.
The main golf tournaments for men are:
Masters Tournament, played in April; US Open, held in September; The Open Championship, in October; PGA Championship, in May. Most of these tournaments also have old roots and are very established in the anglophone world.
There are also tournaments held specifically for female golfers,
such as the Women’s PGA Championship, the Women’s British Open, the US Women’s Open, the Evian Championship. In Britain, a Ladies’ Golf Union exists and is quite active. Despite being notorious as a men’s sports, golf is becoming increasingly popular among women worldwide as well.

As of 2005, the countries where golf was most popular were: the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden. However, since then, golf has picked up in popularity, experiencing a rapid expansion in countries such as China. In 2015, new statistics have shown that golf has become more and more loved in Asian countries like Japan, as well. While golf continues to expand and gain notoriety, it remains one of the most appreciated sports worldwide given that it provides great entertainment and is very captivating.
